Embedded with finalist teams across innovation hubs and rural communities, capturing candid workshop sessions, prototype tests, and honest founder reflections in a clean, documentary format.
Delivered compelling pitch and showcase films that helped local winners secure international mentorship, seed funding, and global representation at UNICEF headquarters.
The Context & Challenge
Generation Unlimited is a global multi-sector partnership initiated by UNICEF, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Plan International, and national governments to connect youth with education, training, and entrepreneurship. In Ghana, the 2019 Youth Challenge brought together hundreds of young problem-solvers tasked with designing solutions for environmental sustainability, digital literacy, and rural healthcare.
Strategic Approach & Execution
In partnership with Documenta AV, SA was tasked with shooting and directing the official infomercial and project documentation films. We avoided standard institutional coverage in favor of an energetic, observational verité documentary style. We traveled to co-working spaces, maker labs, and peri-urban communities to film young inventors building low-cost solar driers, waste recycling protocols, and mobile health apps.
The Deliverables & Craft
The deliverables included an overarching challenge overview film, individual team case studies, and fast-paced social media spotlights. We handled multi-stakeholder branding requirements seamlessly, integrating UN agency identity standards while maintaining an authentic, grassroots tone that centered youth voices.
Outcomes & Long-Term Impact
The finished films were broadcast at the national awards ceremony in Accra and screened during international youth summits in New York and Geneva. The visual clarity and emotional authenticity of the films helped secure continued funding from corporate sponsors and elevated the young innovators into regional ambassadors.
