The Context & Challenge

In Ghanaian culture, a ‘chop bar’ is an iconic culinary sanctuary—a place of honest, soul-nourishing local food where steaming bowls of groundnut soup, pounded fufu, charcoal-grilled tilapia, and spicy jollof rice bring people together across all social strata. Chopshop was conceived to honor this rich culinary heritage while elevating the chop bar experience into a vibrant, hygienic, design-forward contemporary restaurant chain.

Strategic Approach & Execution

SA was commissioned to lead the complete brand revival and environmental identity design. We rooted our design exploration in authentic Ghanaian vernacular signwriting, vintage wooden mortar-and-pestle craftsmanship, and warm West African spices. The revived visual identity paired handcrafted, bold typography with a rich color palette of toasted paprika, plantain gold, charcoal, and warm cream.

The Deliverables & Craft

Our team designed the complete restaurant experience: interior and exterior environmental signage, neon light installations, bespoke greaseproof food packaging, eco-friendly takeout containers, custom embroidered aprons for kitchen and front-of-house staff, and vibrant illustrated menus. We also developed digital marketing assets and social media style guides to support their grand reopening.

Outcomes & Long-Term Impact

The Chopshop relaunch was a cultural triumph in Accra. The reimagined brand resonated deeply with both nostalgic older generations and trend-conscious urban youth. The restaurant saw immediate lines out the door, exponential growth in takeaway delivery volumes, and widespread acclaim for honoring Ghanaian food culture with uncompromising design excellence.
